When
the PTRC established the STEPS Network of Centres of Excellence, with an
additional $10.5 million dollars of injected research funding from the
Government of Canada, that funding was intended to help accelerate the movement
of new enhanced oil recovery research to the field.
Research
that is deemed by industry to be valuable and necessary to improving the production
of oil, or lessening the environmental impacts of that production, is the whole
focus of STEPS. As an investor in that
research, companies will see their investment money matched dollar-for-dollar
by federal and Saskatchewan provincial funding.
And
a simple investment of several thousand dollars in the overall research program
– since it entitles companies to a share in the research results for all the
projects within the program – could see a return on investment of several
millions in research results.
