The STEPS Business-Led Network of Centres of Excellence was founded through the financial assistance of the Government of Canada through the Networks of Centres of Excellence Secretariat.
The mandate of the STEPS BL-NCE is to improve the economic and environmental impacts of enhanced oil recovery through R&D, field trials and commercialization of new technologies. That mandate is to be driven by the private sector members (“business-led”) with funds also provided by both provincial and federal sponsors. Private sector sponsorship of the program is essential to STEPS’ success.
The federal and provincial funds in the STEPS program are meant to match private sector investment, and for a reasonable sponsorship package companies that might not be able to afford the sorts of research being done within STEPS will find they have shared access to literally millions of dollars in R&D results and technologies arising from that minimal investment.
The PTRC can discuss different sorts of memberships in STEPS that include the entire suite of research being conducted, or tailor it to specific areas of interest to match your company’s portfolio of assets (only light oil research, for example, or heavy oil combined with bitumen). Sponsorship might include:
· Cash or in-kind sponsorship of the entire STEPS program or of only specific themes within that program
· Cash or in-kind sponsorship of field trials of new technologies
· Individually funded projects that might lead to partnerships with some members of the program but not others
Researchers
If you are currently conducting research in enhanced oil recovery at a university or research organization, and are looking to build upon those results through field trials or develop entirely new technologies based on new and innovative ideas, STEPS would like to hear from you.
Funds are available, through our RFP processes, to help push forward enhanced oil recovery processes and fund innovate R&D that is of interest to our industry partners.
